This does not even touch upon all of the different forms of racism that Americans have practiced throughout the years, including against Native Americans, African Americans/Blacks, Hispanics, and Asians. White women got the right to vote decades before women of color did. I hold no romantic notions of living in the past.

Thank you for the re-blog. Those golden years of the 40’s and 50’s excluded almost everyone who wasn’t heterosexual and white. White women had few real rights beyond the vote. What was good about those years was the genuine interest in making democratic principle a reality. It was this interest that sparked the various civil right’s movements that culminated in the right to same sex marriage two short years ago.

And people who romanticize the good ol’ days forget about how far we have come with technology and healthcare. Give up the cell phones they dry hump every day? Heavens, no! But let’s definitely go back to oppression of nearly every single person except the hetero white male. I want to see big waves of forced democracy and human rights again, but with less hospitalizations.
